Don't Believe The Hype: Clinique Chubby Sticks

Hey Ladies,

I hope you're all well, this post is about Clinique's latest offering 'Chubby Sticks'. I'll admit I was curious about these.I always am when something new and hyped up hits the makeup stands! I purchased two last week, and I have to say, I am unimpressed. I really don't understand what all the fuss is about. They're not exactly the most unique product out there. Here are my thoughts...

There are 16 shades to choose from, which is great, every girl loves having a good selection to help make an informed decison. Clinique say that this is a moisturising lip colour balm. I dont know about that, it's supposed to relieve dry, cracked lips and provide immidate moisturisation. I really dont find them moisturising at all. The colours are very very sheer and I chose two of the brighter more pigmented colours.

The first shade is 'Pudgy Peony' Which is an almost blue toned fuschia colour. It applies very sheer. It's nice but, nothing spectacular.

This is what it looks like on the lips, please excuse the teenage skin breakout (mortifying!). It applies nicely and the staying power is about average.

This is 'Voluptuous Violet' this would be my pick of the two. It applies a subtle plum colour. It's very similar to my natural lip colour once applied.

The application of these is very sheer. In all honesty, they are a huge let down for me. I really feel like there are much nicer products out there that do exactly the same thing if not better, for a lot less money. These retail for €19, £16 and $16.

Another problem I have with the Chubby Sticks is you only get a whopping .3g of product! That to me is absolutley insane! When you apply the product they tend to wear down quite quickly, so I really couldnt imagine these lasting very long. You're definatley not getting value for money with these. I really think they are over priced for what they are.

So that's it for now ladies.
I hope you found this review helpful.
Have you tried the Chubby Sticks?
If so, what are your thoughts?
If not, do you plan to?
Let me know!

Until Next time,
xoxo

  3. Thanks for writing this! I was interested in trying them before I read this! An alternative that I would recommend in the Babylips (by maybelline) in Pink Punch. It take 2-3 coats to build up a nice color but it is really moisturizing and is only a couple dollars at the drugstore! Perhaps you already own it, but I just thought I would share!

  4. Oh I won't be trying these! I've never tried higher end lip products as I really find drugstore ones suit me fine! But I was actually tempted to try these since the hype but now I'm not gonna thanks for sharing x

    1. No problem Hun! I really just can't justify the price for such a tiny amount of product. If I had known before hand, I wouldn't have bought them...

  5. No I didn't understand the hype about these products either. I haven't found any of these new hybrid lipsticks/lipbalms to actually do both jobs as good as they do separately, until I do I'll just use a lipstick and lip balm separately!

    1. You're right, you can purchase a tinted lip balm for a lot less money, with a lot more product. I really don't know where all the hype stemmed from with this product x

  6. I have a pink one and love mine :) you have to use a lot of it to notice colour change but when you have the colours gorgeous! And they feel so soft on your lips. But they are expensive for 3G of product xxxx

    1. I just feel like that defeats the purpose of the product... If you had to use tonnes of product to achieve a nice colour, it would be gone within the week lol xx

  7. Great honest review! I don't like spending much on lip balms/glosses, so unfortunately won't be buying this! I'd rather try the Revlon dupe x

  9. Thanks a lot for this review! Honestly, I've been eying these Chubby sticks for quite some time now and now I'm happy I didn't buy one :) They do look good on your lips I think, but to sheer for what they pretend to be! <3

Brilliant honest review hun. I'd been tempted by these but looking at your pics, the pigmentation looks really light especially the voluptuous violet. You've def saved me a few bob :-)

    1. It's criminal! Such a tiny amount of product... I can't think of one redeeming thing to say about these. Which, given my love of makeup says an awful lot. Thanks for reading :) x

  13. The Revlon Kissable lip balms look much better! They're not out here yet but they're half the price :)

    1. I'm excited to try them... In all honesty, I have nothing good to say about the above product. Far too expensive for such a 'meh' product. Thanks Hun :) x

  14. I agree with Emily (the comment above). I have both the Revlon Kissable Balm stains (which I purchased from eBay, as it's not out here in Australia) and Clinique Chubby Sticks, and I much prefer the Revlon ones... I think it's the pepperminty scent of the Revlon one that I love compared to the bleh scent.. Staying power is great as well.

    1. Absolutley Hun. I just think that for what they are they're overpriced and a bit of a disappointment to me. But I'm glad you like them :)
